The Japanese University Boardsailing Federation (JUBF), has confirmed that from
the start of the 2010 season onwards, all windsurf racing will be conducted on BIC
Windsurf's Techno 293 OD board and the One Design 7.8 rig. This decision was made
following long-term testing by the JUBF Committee, and negotiation together with
representatives of BIC Sport.
The JUBF, with a strong membership of approximately 350 active windsurfers,
represents one of the largest groups of One Design racers in Japan. It is a vital part of
the ongoing development of the sports of youth windsurfing and sailing in Japan.
Mr Ryuichi Tachibanda, representative of the JUBF, stated that : "While the JUBF
has been racing on the Mistral IMCO for the last 20 years, we have for sometime be
looking for a new and more modern equipment direction to re-vitalise the sport of
youth windsurfing in Japan. Following our testing of the T293 OD equipment, we were
very happy with this choice of equipment for our future competitions, particularly as
the sizing is ideally suited to the average Japanese youth competitor. The Techno 293
OD represented the ideal equipment choice for JUBF members based on its good
performance, easy handling in a wide range of conditions, cost effectiveness, proven
quality and long-term durability, and strong support from BIC Sport. In addition, the
Techno 293 OD Class Association is strong and growing rapidly worldwide, meaning
that the Open Division of the World Championships represents an ideal contest arena
for our top competitors."
